Dr. Barry M. Bishop
I received my MLS from the University of Texas in 1979. I continue to feel that the degree has prepared me for all the changes in School Library Science over the ensuing years. I extended my Librarianship into a doctorate of Instructional Technology from the University of Houston in 1996.
I have had the privilege of opening a brand new elementary Learning Resource Center at Silbernagel Ele. in Dickinson ISD and to be the Head Librarian at Sam Rayburn High School in Pasadena ISD.
I have been a supervisor of Librarians in two districts; Pasadena ISD 1987-1996 and Spring Branch ISD from 1996 to present.
I have hade the opportunity to participate in designing over 30 Libraries and hiring almost 100 Librarians.
I have taught students preparing to become Librarians at a very good School Librarian masters program at the University of Houston –Clear Lake consistently since 1999 and sporadically for several years before that.
I have been active in the Texas Library Association and state wide professional activities including State Program Standards and Certification criteria and testing since 1987. I had the wonderful experience of being the TLA President for 2002-2003 and attending the White House Conference on School Libraries in 2002.
I have the very good fortune of being married to my lovely and supportive wife since 1972 and we have been honored with the respect from 4 beautiful daughters and now 2 son-n-laws and a grandson.
I am content.

I’m so glad I got to be one of those lucky 100 librarians!
